I had coworkers who lost their entire homes and lifelong possessions. Friends who lost their pets. I spent months on social media tracking people down and helping return items to community members that were found miles away from the tornado's path. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. Sadly, 89 lives were lost that night, 676 people were injured, and estimations of the overall damage totaled more than 3.9 billion dollars. We just didn't expect it and many people had nowhere to go when it happened. I felt compelled to help others in the future to have a safe haven when another tragedy such as that happens again.
